Course Overview

This course is designed to provide a foundation in psychopharmacology for non-medical healthcare practitioners. Lectures and discussions will address the art and science of psychopharmacology and the relevance of psychotropic medications in clinical practice. Students will be introduced to basic concepts of pharmacology including mechanism of action, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and metabolism. Topics include how drugs affects mood and behavior including medications used in the treatment of psychiatric illness, illicit drugs use and herbal remedies. Students will be expected to recognize the major classes of psychoactive drugs and their effects.
