ATR-686 Trauma Treatment Modalities (W22) WE
The field of Trauma Studies has exploded. The definition, our understanding, and therefore the way in which we treat trauma, has evolved and expanded tremendously in the last 25 years. Early models of treating trauma typically involved talking about the traumatic event as a central component of treatment. Current models have proven the validity and power of ‘nontalk’ treatments as being just as effective and powerful for trauma survivors. Given the explosion of theory, research and new clinical applications, it is now widely accepted that trauma treatment cannot be adequately addressed with a singular modality generalizable to all. This course will examine some of the most cutting-edge modalities used in the field today, including CBT, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Somatic Experiencing, Polyvagal, Mindfulness, EMDR.
